Prime Minister Sends Support to Charity Campaign

11 December, 2009

The Prime Minister yesterday (10th December) lent his direct support to the ‘Come Home for Christmas’ campaign by the charity Missing People.

Partnering with GMTV and The Mall shopping centres across the UK, Missing People is asking the public to donate old or unwanted mobile phones to enable the charity to answer every call for help this Christmas.

Speaking at the 10 Downing Street launch of a Task Force to examine the UK’s response to ‘missing people’, the Prime Minister said: “The ‘Come Home for Christmas’ campaign is something that is much appreciated. I know the public will be interested to see so much coverage by GMTV of such an important social and moral issue."

In addition the Prime Minister recorded a special campaign message for GMTV viewers to encourage their participation. Other supporters to record messages of support include ITV News at 10 Presenter Julie Etchingham and charity Vice Patron Lorraine Kelly.

The charity’s first Impact Report, published this week, reveals that more than 123,000 calls for help were made to Missing People this year.
