One of UK’s largest mobile phone recycling providers mopay.co.uk this week announced that a recent recycle tour it ran with Preston radio station 97.4 Rock FM was a huge success paying out over £7,500 to the general public, raising £667.92 for Rock FM and Magic 999's Cash for Kids charity and collecting well over 1,000 redundant mobile phones in the Lancashire region alone.

The recycle tour, hosted by Rock FM’s Breakfast Show co-host Gemma Dee stopped at four locations in Lancashire over a six week period during July and August including Blackpool, Blackburn, Wigan and Preston on two occasions. Apart from recycling phones and paying people cash, one of the principal aims of the recycle events was to raise awareness amongst the general public that phone recycling is easy and pays great rewards for little work.

Chris Rogerson, Marketing Manager of mopay.co.uk said:

Our recycling service has been available for a couple of years now and one of our principal aims was to increase the awareness of phone recycling to the general public. We did this by effectively taking our online service direct to people in order to help them cash in on redundant mobiles which would otherwise be left to loose value in a drawer or end up in landfill like many surprising do. It clearly worked and we got a great response from the public — I only hope that they continue to carry on recycling their handsets in the future.

Who benefits from recycling mobiles?

Select quote:“With the credit crunch happening[…] there has never been a better time to recycle your old mobiles.”

A recent study published by Nokia said that only 3% of people recycle their mobile phones despite the fact that most have old devices lying around at home. The survey went on to say that If each of the three billion people globally owning mobiles brought back just one unused device we could save 240,000 tonnes of raw materials and reduce greenhouse gases to the same effect as taking 4 million cars off the road.

Rogerson went on to conclude:

As handset volumes increase and consumers become more ethical, I can see more and more people making use of our service to earn easy money. With the credit crunch happening and more focus on climate change, there has never been a better time to recycle your old mobiles. I think the facts in the Nokia survey speak for themselves — we can all make a big difference with little changes. Our service is simple and straightforward to use — we’ll even pay the postage! — all people have to do is follow the steps online and wait seven days for their cheque from us receiving the handset.

If you have any old phones, why not visit www.mopay.co.uk and see how much yours are worth? mopay.co.uk also offers the option to donate your phones total value to charity and prides itself on being one of most honest suppliers paying you exactly what you see on screen because they display their grading policy online unlike others.
